Chapter Eighteen

The noises that signified her clothes being returned made her sigh slightly, and she stopped floating and washed up in earnest. It was time to get back to business, though she felt refreshed not only in body, but spirit. Sometimes just taking a few minutes to completely chill was vital, especially for morale. She’d been doing mostly high-pressure hunting for two hours, along with the emotional trauma that came from picking at old wounds and dealing with first-day creeps. It wasn’t near enough ‘just-me’ time to recharge her social batteries, but it would suffice to get her through her dealings in town.

As she cleaned every last speck of blood from her body and under her nails, she added in her new stat points from leveling to three, sticking to her pattern of 2 con, 2 dex, 5 int, and 1 str, then adding her percentage in affinity to mystic, and her talent point to mystic missile. Her HP had gone up by 45 points, and her mana by 210 if you added the class leveling bonuses. Plopping down across from him, she stuck her tongue out. “Glutton! Couldn’t even wait for me?”

He spent a moment chewing and swallowing before he deigned to respond, “I wasn’t sure you were ever going to come out again.” She huffed, giving Madam Fen a grateful smile when the lady came out and plopped the food in front of her: rabbit meat, some sort of tuber, and a salad of some kind, chased down with a nice juice. Pretty much standard inn fare.

She dug in with gusto, sneering at him in between bites. “It felt nice to relax.”

“In the early hours of the game? I bet we’re the only two not furiously hunting and instead eating a nice meal.” His observation was astute, considering the only other customer was an NPC eating silently in the corner.

Shrugging, she replied, “It’s better to give the mind a break, sometimes. Mental exhaustion may not become immediately apparent, but it will reduce your efficiency in the long run. We’re not machines, and it’s best not to try and compete like one.” She paused, then asked before she took another
